Fisher House
Fisher Houses serve America’s servicemen and women with 34 comfort homes on the grounds of every military major medical center and eight Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers. To date, the homes have provided free or nominal cost housing to more than 70,000 families of hospitalized service members or veterans. Four more Fisher Houses are scheduled for completion by the end of 2006 – one at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; two at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, and one at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center in Tampa, Florida.
In addition to the network of Fisher Houses, the Foundation administers the Hero Miles program, providing free airline tickets to wounded or injured service members and their families; the Scholarships for Military Children program for the Defense Commissary Agency; and a grants program for the many volunteer organizations working to improve military quality of life.
